ORGANIC:

Requiring all elements of the product or fabric to contain at least 70% natural organic fibres. 

Organic textiles are grown in controlled settings with no pesticides, herbicides, or other chemicals. Only natural fertilizers are used and the soil and water are monitored. 

Regular cotton farming starts with GMO or genetically modified seeds. They are modified to build resistance to bugs, but when the bugs become stronger, more pesticides are required. Organic cotton is made from natural seeds, and there is no use of pesticides or other harmful chemicals. 

You can see from the above having 70% (or higher) natural fibres is a great start to helping our earth be free from chemical pollutants and providing our children with a more natural fabric to touch their skin. 

Where we have used organic cotton and not GOTS certified organic cotton, has come down to availability for small batch production. We are constantly striving to use only the most natural fabric options and will continue in our efforts to do better with each garment that we bring into this world. 

GOTS CERTIFIED ORGANIC:

Requiring all elements of the product or fabric to contain at least 95% natural organic fibres.

As well as requiring a high level of organically grown fibres, the dyes and processes used in the fabric must all be biodegradable and not toxic. No harmful substances are to be used or contained in the finished product or product packaging and workers at all stages of production must be treated in accordance with the International Labour Organization (ILO). 

To make sure that all these standards are met, GOTS requires regular residue testing and on-site auditing/inspections, along with appropriate certifications at all levels of the supply chain.

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD:

STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is one of the world's best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances.

OEKO-TEX® is a global textile standard, and very similar to GOTS certification, it lets you know that every component of a garment, including the threads, dyes, and embellishments is completely free of 100 substances known to be toxic or harmful.
